Dr. Steven Robert Gundry is a former cardiac surgeon, regenerative medicine expert, and best-selling author. Born on July 11, 1950, he graduated cum laude from Yale University with special honors in Human Biological and Social Evolution, and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. After completing residencies in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Michigan and serving as a Clinical Associate at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Gundry became Professor and Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Loma Linda University from 1989 to 2002, where he and colleague Leonard Bailey performed more infant and pediatric heart transplants than anyone else in the world. In 2002, Dr. Gundry founded The International Heart & Lung Institute and later The Center for Restorative Medicine in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, California, shifting his focus from surgery to treating chronic diseases through dietary interventions and gut health.
