Net Zero

Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere and the amount removed from it. A country, company, or individual reaches net zero when they produce no more emissions than they can offset through actions like carbon removal (e.g. reforestation, carbon capture) or purchasing verified carbon credits.

The goal of achieving net zero is central to limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, as outlined in the Paris Agreement.
