Appeal to Authority

Accepting that something is true just because an authority figure said it was. This is a very commonly used shortcut, because we cannot easily verify or extensively research all of the information we’re presented with. Relying upon authority figures is generally a sound strategy. However, it can become a fallacy when it is used as the only support to an argument, with no consideration of evidence.
