The Food Babe

Vani Hari (born March 22, 1979, in Charlotte, North Carolina) is an American author, activist, and affiliate marketer known for demanding transparency in the food industry. She launched the blog FoodBabe.com in 2011, drawing over 54 million views in 2014.

Armed with a computer science degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Hari left a career in management consulting to commit fully to food activism in 2012. Her efforts have reportedly influenced major companies, like Chick-fil-A, Kraft, Subway, General Mills, Chipotle, and Starbucks, to reevaluate or change ingredients and product formulations.

Hari is a New York Times best‑selling author and was named one of Time magazine’s “Most Influential People on the Internet” in 2015. She’s also known for leading the “Food Babe Army”, her dedicated online following, through petitions, investigations, and social media campaigns.

While many praise her for holding big food brands accountable, critics, including scientists and food experts, have accused her approach of leaning toward pseudoscience and chemophobia. Some also point to potential conflicts of interest through her affiliate marketing and the supplements brand she founded, Truvani
