Margriet Schouten completed a BSc and MSc in Nutrition & Health, specialising in Nutritional Physiology & Health Status, at Wageningen University & Research. During her studies, she carried out research in rural Uganda, where she saw firsthand how important it is to translate complex scientific evidence into understandable language to have a practical impact.

Her interests lie mainly in global nutrition, hidden hunger, and women's and children's nutrition, with a particular focus on helping vulnerable populations. Since working in Uganda, she has come to realise that nutrition and health are part of a bigger food system, with many actors involved. This is why she is also keen to learn about food systems and the Sustainable Development Goals, and why she is currently in her role as Climate-Resilient Feed Programme Coordinator at De Heus in Kenya.
